About Metro Blogs

The Metro Blogs project pilot began in May, 2006 as a way to articulate to future students what it is to be a student at Metropolitan State College of Denver. Metro Bloggers are real students who have agreed to document a semester-long (or more!) experience, sharing their week-to-week thoughts and experiences both at the College and in their personal lives away from their studies.

This pilot project is a joint effort between the Office of College Communications and the Office of Admissions. The Metro Blogs project pilot is scheduled to run throughout the summer and fall semesters of 2006.

What are the ground rules for Metro Bloggers?

There are not really rules, more like advice to follow:

- Post once per week at a minimum: More often is great, but once a week will do.

- Be yourself: Don't feel you have to change who you are because you are writing for a Metro State blog. You've been selected because we want you to portray the person you are.

- Be honest: If you are having a bad day it's ok to say it. Don't sugarcoat your experience. We are asking you to blog because we want to articulate the Metro State experience to future students. The good, bad and the ugly can all have a place here. That said...

- Don't write angry: Give yourself some time to calm down and focus.

- Proofread! You are representing yourself to the world; it doesn't hurt to proof that late-night entry just one more time before posting.

- Don't use names: It's ok to say "my professor said this" or "my friend yelled at me today," but it is not ok to publicly post names for all to see.

- Practice 'safe' blogging: While blogging is an act of personal expression, be certain to NOT disclose information about yourself that could compromise your safety or security such as identity theft or stalking.

and finally

- Don't expect to be censored: Blogging is a very public expression of creativity. As such it is prudent to remember that your classmates, professors, friends, family and even future employers may read your blog now or in the future. As they say; once it's on the Internet, it will always be on the Internet. As long as material submitted is appropriate and meets established College policy (Standards of Conduct, Student Conduct Code, Information Technology Policies and Guidelines) submissions will not be changed when published.

Are Metro Bloggers paid?

Yes. At this time Metro Bloggers are paid a small stipend at the end of the semester during which they are blogging.

So what else do they get out of it?

Fame, fortune, a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract writing for a fortune fifty Web publication ...well, we aren't too sure about any of that. But we are pretty sure that Metro Bloggers will have the satisfaction of making a little extra cash while being challenged by something they enjoy: writing about this unique time in their lives as a Metro State student.

How do *I* get to be a Metro Blogger?

We are currently looking for Metro Bloggers for the fall semester. To be considered for this opportunity, please complete a Metro Blogger application form before the midnight deadline on Tuesday, August 1st.
