Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

Last year Metropolitan State College of Denver began its journey to become the preeminent public urban baccalaureate college in the nation. A critical component to Metro State's reaching the goal of preeminence is a comprehensive, institution-wide integrated marketing plan. Built on the foundation of Metro State's core values, this plan will enhance the College's brand and reputation.

To assure that we tell all aspects of the Metro State story, I appointed an Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) planning team with a membership representing a wide array of faculty, staff, administrators and students, including myself as the planning champion of this project.

A key objective of the committee was to develop continuity on all materials that tell the Metro State story. It is important to unify and strengthen Metro State's image, and thereby enhance name recognition and brand identity for our institution as a whole, as well as our exceptional programs, students, faculty, staff and alumni. To achieve this, it is essential we are consistent in both our messages and visual imagery.

Seeking to ensure that the College community would have a voice in the project, this Identity Standards Manual, developed by the Office of College Communications, was reviewed by the IMC committee and the President's Cabinet. Before it was finalized, it was also displayed in @Metro with requests for feedback. This manual will serve as a blueprint for consistency in all College publications, Web sites and other communications and printed materials. Included are the editorial guidelines for general rules of grammar, usage and style to help guide our faculty, staff and administrators as messages are crafted and delivered.

This document will unify the marketing efforts of the many facets of the College, to best serve and inform Metro State's many publics. It calls for consistent use of logos, as outlined in the following pages. It will also provide standards for Metro State's name to be presented in a clear and consistent manner through the range of communications – both print and digital – throughout the campus.

Although these standards became effective Jan. 1, 2007, you have a year to use existing supplies of materials that do not meet the guidelines. Full transition to the new identity standards is required by Jan. 1, 2008.

Thank you for your support and participation as we build a stronger Metro State through a unified image and key messages that will help lead us to the next echelon of preeminence.

Stephen M. Jordan, Ph.D.
President
